I've talked to Akaza twice now one on one, with neither time devolving into a fight. The first time was mostly figuring out where we stood. Asking what he planned to do to make up for the lives he's taken, reminding him that if anything happens and he attacks someone that I'll kill him regardless of Rengoku's wishes. After that was... unremarkable. Mostly smalltalk.

And the second time he brought me a potted aloe with a hand-painted pot to help me heal faster. If he's acting, he's very thorough, but I believe him that he remembered his past and is trying to do better. That doesn't mean he's absolved, but it's... something.

It's difficult to explain. I certainly haven't forgiven him, but at least he's aware that he's done wrong and also hasn't forgiven himself.
